Thank you to all the parents who returned their completed questionnaires.
It has really helped us to understand how you feel about KS1 and ensure that you and your child are happy with Westrop School.
Here are some of the positive comments that were lovely to read:
Here are some of the worries parents had which we would like to try and help sort |
"My child struggles to complete all the homework set."
The recommended homework guidelines given to primary schools are that children in Year 1 and 2 child should complete about 1 hour a week. Broken down over the time you get for learning logs this is about 10 minutes every day. As your child’s teachers we know how much work they can do in 2 hours: So if after 2 hours they have not finished it is fine to get them to stop. |
"I still don’t understand how to
lay out learning logs."
Please don’t worry about how your child sets out their learning logs we have given some guidance so that the books are more likely to last a full term. Please check the school website for ideas or pop in after school to look at some good examples of learning logs. |
"We are unsure how independent
the learning logs should be."
We would rather the completed work themselves e.g. their own writing and attempts at spelling. However homework offers really good 1:1 time to help support and guide your child’s learning. |
"Some homework tasks
seem abstract to me."
The work is based on work that we do within class. The topic work is taken from the new International Primary Curriculum and this is used by other Year 1 and 2 children around the world. |
"I have mixed feeling about sets."
Sets in school allow children at similar levels to work in groups. It ensures work is set at an appropriate level offering support and challenge as necessary. |
| Thank you for all your support.
